Frequently Ask Questions about the Private/PSTAR/Radio/Air Exercise courses. What should I do to prepare for flight training? The first thing is to get a medical if you intend on starting flight training shortly. Transport Canada approved doctors.
What order should I do the courses? All courses are designed to work from top to bottom. Start with the Air Exercise course, go through each exercise before you actually fly them with your instructor. Go through the PSTAR and Radio Licence before you are ready to solo. Then go complete the Private Pilot course which will prepare you for the Private Pilot written examination. Lastly go back to the the Air Exercise course to help your preparation for the flight test. Why are there so many courses? We are attempting to organize the content and to keep the list of material to a manageable level for each course. In the last few months we've added considerably to the content with more to come. What are these courses for?PSTAR: Pre Solo Air Regulations. This test is required for the student pilot permit. Air Exercise course: Allows a student to understand how to do the air exercises and preparation for the flight test. Radio Licence: Prepares students for the radio licence exam. This material is actually still on the Private Licence course but as the radio licence course expands we'll eventually be taking the material off of the Private Licence course. Students on the Private Licence course will be given access to this course. Private course: This course will prepare the student for the Private written exam. What do I need for a student pilot permit?Complete the PSTAR and medical. What are the types of medicals?Class 1: For the ATPL, CPL, PPL, RPP, UPP, student permit. Class 3: For the PPL, RPP, UPP, student permit Class 4: For the RPP, UPP, student permitWhat are the privileges of a student pilot permit?Allows a student to fly solo under the supervision of a flight instructor. In Canada only, VFR only.Where do I write the PSTAR and radio exams? With your flying school.Where do I write the Private, Recreational, Ultralight exam?At a Transport Canada approved exam center http://www.tc.gc.ca/CivilAviation/General/Exams/Centres.htmWhen should I start flight training? After you have completed exercise 1-9 in the Air Exercise course.Should I complete the online course first and then start flying? Some students do it that way, but it will be a lot easier to learn if you take at least some flight training well you are working through the course. Practical application of theory is very helpful for understanding the course material. Also if you have a flight instructor you'll be able to ask questions from a real live person. Many students also use our courses to familiarize themselves with aviation before actually starting.I want to write the pstar exam, do I need something from pilottraining.ca?No, your flight school does not need a letter from me.I want to write the radio exam, do I need something from pilottraining.ca?No, your flight school does not need a letter from me.I want to write the private pilot exam, do I need something from pilottraining.ca?Yes, you need a record of ground school and a recommendation for the exam. See next question. What do I need to get a recommendation for the private written exam? You need to complete all of the courses including all of the practice quizzes, presentations, and videos. Then you email adam@harvsair.com stating you have completed the course and need a recommendation and record of ground school. Also include in this email a copy of the last page of your logbook and medical. Remember you need to have at least 10 hours of flight training to write the examination (I would recommend more hours, closer to 40). Please note that it takes us 2 days to review the course material and issue the letters. Can the PSTAR and PPL exams be written up at the same time ?The PSTAR needs to be completed before the PPL written. |
