Why use a flight simulator to renew for your instrument rating?
Lower cost. No hood
No weather delays and navcanada/airspace delays.

How?

The actual amount of training and cost to renew your rating depends on your currency and skill level. Here is a example of a "average" student in a multi engine airplane (single engine would reduce the total cost by $212).

4 hours simulator @ $128/hour = $512
2 hours solo simulator work at $75/hour = $150
2 hours ground briefing @$45/hour = $90
Flight test fee = $300
Total = $1052

Who?
You can renew your instrument rating using just the simulator if it's been 24-48 months since your last instrument rating flight test. If it's been more then 48 months you'll have to do the INRAT written exam as well. Use www.pilottraining.ca to help with your renewal.
